Philip qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1988. He worked for Coopers & Lybrand Corporate Finance for 8 years on venture capital, fund raising, acquisitions, disposals and floatations. He joined Burmah Castrol in 1987 and became Finance Director for its global Construction Chemicals division in 2000. Philip joined Aston Science Park as Director of Finance in 2004.

Steve is Chief Executive of ART, the pioneering local community development finance institution (CDFI). This followed a banking career of over 29 years dedicated to the provision of finance and advice to small businesses. Steve has extensive practical experience of the challenges faced by SMEs in acquiring grant, loan and equity support and is a member of the West Midlands Regional Finance Forum.

Patricia spent much of her career in media, first with NBC, then with Cable Television. She was recruited to England as one of the start-up managers for the emergence of the Cable Television and Telephone industry. She has had extensive experience in developing and assisting new business ventures. With a Masters Degree from Seattle University, she is now involved with sourcing equity funding for companies requiring funding below £3M.

OBE, Chairman of the Regional Enterprise Board
Norman is a government adviser on business finance and tax issues and an active and successful entrepreneur. Norman has a portfolio of roles in the public and private sector associated with business and economic development after a senior career in engineering businesses. He has recently been very active in regional development in the West Midlands formerly as deputy chair of the Regional Development Agency, and currently chair of the Regional Enterprise Board, Finance Forum, and Birmingham Science City.  He is therefore in an ideal position to review the future of business support and funding for growth to develop the regional businesses.

Managing Director, Advantage Creative Fund
David’s first career was 34 years with HSBC Bank where latterly he specialised in Corporate Finance. After leaving HSBC, he became the MD of a £3.5m t/o manufacturing company.  In 2002, he became the MD of Maverick Television Ltd who went through the process of fund raising.  For some years David was a Non Executive Director of Birmingham Venture Capital Ltd and  for Creative Advantage West Midlands Ltd.

Managing Director, The Advantage Early Growth Fund
Kevin started his career as an engineer in the Midlands car industry and has worked in venture capital for 25 years, making over 260 investments, most of which have been in start-up or early stage businesses.  He has established and managed several venture capital funds and for the past four years has been MD of the £8m Advantage Early Growth Fund which is pioneering a new approach to small venture capital investments.  Kevin is the author of 3 books on small business finance and several interactive guides including the recent “Enterprise Investment Scheme Check Up”.

Chief Executive, Medical Devices Technology International Ltd (MDTi)
After leaving Her Majesty’s Armed forces as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer he spent 5 years as an International Trade Finance Manager for BANESTO, in 1997 he founded Pintos Global Services Limited an e-commerce financial marketplace in the role of Business Development Director for 4 years. In 2001 formed Pintos Technology Limited a specialist technology and business consultancy service to public medical and healthcare initiatives and was instrumental in establishing for the West Midlands its own medical business association in the form of West Midlands Medilink. One of the original founders of MDTi in 2003 and became its CEO in 2005.
