We are delighted to announce that Aston Science Park, Photonics Cluster and the Business Partnership Unit have joined forces to sponsor the Aston University Formula Student Team. We will be providing financial assistance and supporting the team and look forward to building a strong relationship with the student team as we invest in supporting this exceptional international initiative.

Dr. Derek Harris, Chief Executive of Aston Science Park said: “We are delighted to sponsor the formula team and invest our resources into supporting the future engineering talent including design and manufacturing. This is an excellent initiative which the student team can benefit from and capitalise on the design and engineering expertise of the Photonics Cluster based on Aston Science Park.”
Formula Student is an international competition in which students from around the world design and manufacture a single-seater racing car. The UK event takes place at Silverstone race track in Northamptonshire.

The competition regularly attracts more than 80 teams from as far away as Australia, North America and the Far East as well as teams from all over Europe, including around 30 UK universities. The teams are assessed by top engineers and business managers from the motor sport industry in two areas: ‘Static’ - design, cost and business planning; and ‘Dynamic’ - sprint, acceleration, skid pan and endurance events

The competition is unlike any other, and has been proven to develop future engineering talent in design, manufacture, management, marketing and people skills. It is also an opportunity for industry to develop links with academia.
