Calls for innovative ICT leaders to enter local awards

Innovative high-tech companies in Birmingham are being urged by industry leaders to step forward and take part in the 2007 West Midlands ICT Cluster Excellence Awards.

The ICT Cluster is especially pinning its hopes on Birmingham's high-tech hotbed, in particular Aston Science Park, to bring success to the borough in this year's competition.

The awards are designed to recognise the talents of the region's growing ICT sector, and will be presented during an evening drinks reception at the National Motorcycle Museum on November 22.Open to any West Midlands technology SME company, a £2,000 prize fund and handmade trophy is up for grabs. Categories in this year's awards include ICT Excellence in Innovation (Product), ICT Excellence in Innovation (Service), ICT Excellence in Public Sector ICT Projects, ICT Excellence in Skills and ICT Excellence in Creative Partnerships, with an overall champion being selected from the winners of each of the five categories.

Since the launch of the event in 2005, the winners of previous ICT Cluster award ceremonies have benefited from an increased portfolio of clients, improved marketing exposure, recognition from peers in the industry and offers of funding. Fledgling and successful small to medium sized businesses looking to expand and promote their products and services are being urged to submit their application before the September 28 deadline.

Mike Musson, ICT Cluster manager, said: "The competition this year promises to be stiff as our region's technology sector develops and innovative companies spring up in all sectors, including wireless, software, e-business, photonics and open source. We welcome all entrants and encourage all technology-based SMEs to participate to gain valuable recognition for the incredible work done in the region.”
