Aston Science Park further strengthened its links with the world of regional journalism when it sponsored two categories at this year’s Midlands’ Media Awards, held at the Botanical Gardens, Birmingham.

Pictured here with Dr Derek Harris (right), Chief Executive of the Science Park, are radio personality Ed James of Heart FM (left) and ITV Central’s Bob Warman, who compared the event, and Liz  Gray, from the Shrewsbury Chronicle.

Liz was named News Reporter of the Year (Weekly), an award, which, together with the News Reporter of the Year (Daily) category, was sponsored by Aston Science Park. Jeanette Oldham, of the Sunday Mercury, was named as winner of the Daily award.

John Lamb, chairman of the Birmingham Press Club, which organised the awards, said: “The awards evening was a sell out, and we were very pleased that the event, which has moved to a new autumn time slot, continues to be one of the UK’s key media functions.”

Dr Harris commented:  “The Media Awards is a highlight of the Press Club calendar and we were delighted to have the opportunity to be associated with such a high-profile event.”

Other sponsors included Royal Mail - Birmingham Press Club’s overall sponsor for 2006/7 - South Birmingham College British Airways and the New Street Gateway Project.
