The Photonics Cluster (UK) was established and is managed by Aston Science Park. 

The Photonics Cluster (UK) has created a positive environment which has seen the development of industry-focused training, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, technology transfer events and the growth of international networks - networks which foster links with the established Brussels-based European Business Network organisation and opto-electronics networks in Germany, France and emerging European states.

The cluster activities include securing on behalf of its growing membership, corporate finance, research funding, and access to inhouse research facilities with optoelectronics equipment in the areas of 3 D scanning, laser micro machining and processing, photometric analysis, surface measurement, high speed photography using lasers, automated fibre alignment and telecom component test and measurement equipment. Photonics Cluster (UK) is dedicated to supporting the optoelectronics industry by interacting with technology and user sector companies as well as academic and research establishments.

Head Quarters are at Aston Science Park with a satellite base in Stevenage, Hertfordshire to the south of England. There is a team comprising 6 full time equivalent staff dedicated to the delivery of its operational areas. A unique feature of Photonics Cluster (UK) is its ability to access approachable expertise from within its own staff and from within its membership. This characteristic has developed from the successful operation of the Photonics Cluster (UK) facilities where a 4 million euros facility comprising key end user focussed photonics systems is in daily use. A key element of the proposal is to provide client companies with support from the Photonics Cluster (UK) membership and access to its facilities.

                                   

Photonics Cluster (UK) incorporates the United Kingdom Laser and Electro Optics Association and is a Committee member of the United Kingdom Consortium of Photonics Organisations. This permits Photonics Cluster (UK) to interface with all aspects of the UK photonics community at the strategic and operational level. The team are efficient in the promotion, delivery and follow up of dissemination events and are aware of the opportunities available between networks from other European countries through the use of electronic newsletters and interactive database driven web sites.
